How are you buying your Christmas outfits this year?
Are you being careful with purchases this year or are you like us and absolutely sick to the back teeth of the phrases thrown around in the news such as “current economic climate” “credit crunch” “recession” etc.
We have found 2 different types of people this year buying for the Christmas season.
1) The Recessionista
This term has been used to describe girls who go out and shop regardless of the financial state of the economy. They know how to get a good bargain and where the good deals are but their style is certainly not going to suffer just because of economy. I mean after all a girl has to look good doesn’t she??
These shoppers have been buying complete outfits this season – from new dress, sparkly sandals and matching evening bags – even down to the new matching accessories for the fabulous dress and shoes for the party season. They may have downgraded from their usual labels but they certainly are not going without at this time of year.
2) The Careful Shopper
On the flip side of this season’s shopping patterns is what we would call in the North of England as “The Canny Shopper”. Although pennies are not necessarily scarce in this shoppers purse they certainly know how to buy with caution and research.
Most girls have a few LBDs (little black dresses) in the wardrobe and if they are really lucky fashions have repeated themselves. 80’s styles are particularly hot this season. Some may choose to revamp a little black dress by adding a few personal touches – bows. Diamantes etc. Or they may choose to purchase a classic vintage style and glam it up with accessories. These girls will choose a new pair of shoes and a new evening bag to go with a classic black dress with a few select accessories.
They realise the dresses stay similar year upon year and realise a new pair of shoes and bag can give a whole new look to an outfit. Gok Wan is really helping with his TV programmes to help us to realise we can change a whole outfit by just changing a few key accessories.
So which type of shopper are you Recessionista or Canny Shopper
