Its that time of year when the sun has occasionally started shining and people have decided to have their Summer Events.
Whether this is a simple Garden Party or a Picnic in the Park. Down to the extravagant wedding events that thousands of people will be attending this year.
So here are some hints and tips to choosing the ideal Summer Event footwear.
1) Appropriate footwear is essential.
There would be no point at all if you were to wear stiletto heels if you are attending an event in a field. Depending upon our wonderful British weather the field could possibly be quite muddy in parts (even if not a complete washout)
Therefore a cleanable material (ie not satin or canvas) pair of shoes with a wide heel or possibly a wedge heel could be best as they do not sink as easily into the mud. Then of course if you do happen to get a little mud staining it can be wiped off (remember to take a little pack of wipes to keep the shoes clean)
If you are attending a garden party ask if there is some paving around the lawn area so that you can decide on appropriate footwear.
2) Choose complementary coloured footwear to your outfit.
This is really important. Depending upon the colour of your outfit you should choose your footwear carefully. Your shoes and accessories do not all have to be exactly the same colour. Sometimes in fact it would be better to use a complementary coordinating colours rather than mismatching shades of the same colour.
As an example – If you have chosen a gorgeous cobalt blue outfit then think about silver sandals or black patent heels. Instead of a different shade of blue or giving yourself a headache trying to get an exact match.
3) Consider the heel height.
Ladies please remember that you may be on your feet for sometime during an event. Your footwear should be comfortable enough to walk and stand in for a good 30 minutes at a time. You may also wish to dance at your Summer Event so again comfort is an essential consideration.
If you can wear 4 inch heels without problem then go for it but if you can’t realisitically walk in heels this high when sober the chances of after a couple of glasses of vino are even smaller.
A good heel can elongate the leg and suit you (unless you are going to end up sprawled on your face then they will do nothing to help you look more elegant) We can all remember the SATC episode where Carrie ends up on her face wearing tiny gold pants and huge heels.
4) Choose a style that does not clash with your outfit.
This should really be common sense but we all have times that we can’t explain in our fashion sense (mine was the whole of the 80′s)
Sometimes a style may be very “on trend” ie worker/military boots – but you would not really wish to wear them with a gorgeous floaty tea dress at a gorgeous country house wedding. Although at other times they would look very trendy and cool. So best perhaps to team a floaty dress with a gorgeous pair or wedges or even a open shoe boots sandals.
5) Choose a style to suit your leg shape or body type.
Now as ladies we all have a leg type or body type that we are best to remember when buying footwear.
If you have wide calves – choose a chunky style to balance or a petite dainty pointed style could make the calf area seem much wider than it actually is.
If you have thin ankles then possibly avoid sandals that wrap around the ankle as they will hang and make them appear much thinner.
If you are already a tall lady – perhaps it is best to choose a medium or low heel or you will be towering above everyone in the photographs.
We hope these tips have given you a few things to think about while buying your footwear for Summer Events.
But mostly remember you want to enjoy the event and not worry about blisters and falling over. So choose well and dance the night away – but looking fabulous as always of course.
